Difficulties often arise when selecting an explosion-proof electric motor.
There are 3 types of electric motors:

  1. The most stringent requirements. For underground work and use in mines. (mixture category I)
  2. For use with explosive atmospheres (mixture category — II for gas);
  3. For use in explosive dust atmospheres (mixture category II dust).

Most often there are 3 types of marking in practice:

  • PB Ex d I — mine
  • 1 Ex d IIB T4 — chemical version (explosion proof)
  • Ex nA II T4 — intrinsically safe motors
